Returnee migrant

Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP), being a grassroots migrants organization, has organized Annual Congress on Migrants Budget in May 2018. Some of 500 returnee migrant workers, both male and female as well as female spouses of the current migrant workers, participated in the congress from numerous districts of Bangladesh. The congress was held in the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Kakrail, Dhaka on May 15 2018 in the eve of National Budget for the FY 2018-19. The theme of the Congress for this year was National Consultation on Migrants Budget.
The core objective of this annual congress was to raise the voice of migrant workers to draw due attention of the government of Bangladesh for increasing budgetary allocation for the wellbeing of the migrant workers in the countrys National Budget.

Lawmaker Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) and the Co-chair of the parliamentary caucus on migration and development graced the chair as the Chief Guest. Audrey Maillot, Team Leader of Governance, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, attended the meeting as Guest of Honor. Director General of Wage Earners Welfare Board (WEWB) Mr. Gazi Mohammad Julhas chaired the position of Special Guest to the consultation. Mr. Shakirul Islam, Chairman of OKUP, presided over the consultation and Mr. Omar Faruque Chowdhury, Executive Director of OKUP, moderated the program. Number of Heads of migration lead organizations participated and echoed the demands raised by the migrant workers.
