Under the lead agency – Fondation Caritas Luxembourg, OKUP has been partnered in a consortium of the cross-border migration project entitled “Initiating a global approach in supporting and empowering migrants throughout the migration cycle and asylum-seekers and refugees in Lebanon” along with Caritas Lebanon Migrant Centre, Ethiopian Catholic Church – Social Development Coordinating Office of Meki (MCS), Ethiopian Catholic Church- Social and Development Commission (ECS) for the period August 2013 to July 2016. The project is funded jointly by the European Commission and Caritas Luxembourg and its co funders. The project aims to contributing to the protection and defence of the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and women domestic migrant workers throughout the migration cycle in Lebanon and countries of origin and to foster their socio-economic development.
The project has extended further scopes for strengthening cross borders referrals with Caritas Lebanon Migrant Centre for onsite assistance to Bangladeshi women migrant workers in Lebanon as well as return and reintegration support to the returnees. Major activities under the project are to increase awareness and promote informed and safe migration; provide direct assistance to vulnerable returnee migrants including airport pick-up, shelter, health support, legal assistance, and economic reintegration for sustainable livelihoods.
The project has been implemented in four sub-districts – Araihazar in Narayangonj, Munshigonj Sadar, Narsingdi Sadar, and Brahmmanpara in Comilla district. Total value of the project is EURO 565,988 equivalent to BDT 56,598,800.
