Deputy Assistant Secretary of US State Department and USAID visit to OKUP on 29 January 2018

US high delegation with OKUP team

A high level delegation from US State Department, US Embassy in Bangladesh, USAID and Winrock International visited Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP) office on 29 January 2018. OKUP is a grassroots migrant organization working for upholding the rights and dignity of migrant workers and trafficking survivors. The delegation was headed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Department Mr. Daniel Rosenblum. He was accompanied by H.E Ms. Marcia Bernicat, USA Ambassador to Bangladesh, USAID Mission Director Ms. Janina Jaruzelski, Director of Democracy and Governance Mr. Tom Pope along with Winrock Chief of Party Ms. Irinel Cocos and other officials.

Meeting with OKUP team

They visited OKUP shelter home and listen to the voice of survivors of labor trafficking. They are also oriented with OKUP overall interventions including, support and services for the survivors. The survivors shared their states of sufferings and urged the delegation for actions. We do not want any other migrant worker faces the same miseries we have had and become the victim of labor trafficking said the survivors to the delegation. OKUP staffs along with its Chairman Mr. Shakirul Islam and Executive Director Mr. Omar Faruque Chowdhury were present there.
