OKUP organized a consultation meeting with local authorities and stakeholders in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, Munshiganj on 08th February, 2017. Aiming at the promotion of accountability for fair overseas recruitment, the meeting was arranged at the Upazila Complex Auditorium, Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, Munshiganj. A total 46 stakeholders including government officials, Union Parishad representatives, returnee migrant workers, recruiting agents, sub-agents, journalists, NGO representatives and other social actors participated in the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to inform and aware these local authorities, recruiting agents and sub-agents on fair and ethical recruitment and sensitize on their distinct roles and responsibilities to practice ethical overseas recruitment. Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Suraiya Jahan chaired the meeting while respective Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Anis Uzzaman attended as the chief guest. OKUP Program Manager Mr. A.A. Mamun also participated in the meeting. Participants expressed significant opinions on strategies to make the recruitment process more transparent and accountable. OKUP will organize 12 consultation meetings and submit all these recommendations to the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE) in order to promote fair and ethical overseas recruitment from Bangladesh.
