OKUP organized a consultation meeting on fair and ethical overseas recruitment in Brahmanpara Upazila, Comilla on 17th of January (Tuesday), 2017. The meeting was carried out under the Work in Freedom (WiF) program supported by International Labour Organization (ILO) and UK-AID. Aiming at the promotion of accountability for fair and ethical migrant recruitment in overseas countries, the meeting concentrated to inform local government authorities and sensitize recruiting agents and sub-agents on their roles and responsibilities to practice fair and ethical migrant worker recruitment process. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Shakhawat Hossen Sarker chaired the meeting while Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Jahangir Khan Chowdhury addressed as the chief guest. OKUP Executive Director Omar Faruque Chowdhury delivered the opening speech in the meeting. Significantly, the meeting provided a shared space for Upazila administration officers, Union Parishad representatives, agents and sub-agents, returnee migrant workers, journalists, NGO representatives and other local stakeholders to place their suggestions to promote fair and ethical recruitment in local level. OKUP intends to come forward with these suggestions and recommendations to promote fair and ethical recruitment.
