Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP) organized a consultation meeting at Charbhadrasan Upazila, Faridpur on 22nd of December, 2016. The meeting was carried out under the Work in Freedom (WiF) program supported by ILO and UK-AID. The objective of the meeting was to promote accountability for fair overseas recruitment through informing local government authorities and sensitizing recruitment agents and sub-agents on their roles and responsibilities to practice fair and ethical recruitment. A total 53 stakeholders including upazila administration officers, union parishad representatives, local recruiting agents/sub-agents, returnee migrant workers, journalists, NGO representatives and other social actors participated at the meeting. Upazila Parishad Chairman Mr. A.G.M. Badal Amin was the chief guest where Upazila vice-chairman (woman) Mrs. Tanjina Akter, Char Harirampur UP Chairman Mr. Amir Hossain Khan also attended the meeting. Charbhadrasan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mr. Parvez Chowdhury chaired the meeting. In the meeting, OKUP Project Manager Mr. Akib Anwar demonstrated a power-point presentation on Migration cycle and Overall Migration Scenario from Bangladesh to destination countries. A fruitful open discussion followed by the presentation went on where participants placed significant recommendations to promote fair and ethical recruitment in local level overseas employment. OKUP intends to bring these recommendations to the respective ministry of Bangladesh so that effective measures can be taken to promote fair and ethical recruitment.
